Making your life your own
An introduction to me
For my very first blog post EVER, I was going to write about ‘My Awful Dairy Free Week’ but after talking to Kristen about her first post, and what she was writing, mine seemed inappropriate, so I’ll save that one until next week.
The appropriate thing to do would be to introduce myself so you can get to know me. The first thing you should know about me is that I often do inappropriate things at inappropriate times unless reigned in by common sense… or someone else with common sense. I’m a Sagittarius what can I say?
So, here goes.
It was the best of times and it was the worst of times. Oh, wait, that line has been taken, but none better has ever been written.
It makes me think of when my kids were very small. It was the best of times
because, well… because my kids were very small. They loved unconditionally as only children can, and thought the moon was hung on me. Those were truly the best of timesI remember one day I was in the house and watching all 3 of them from the window playing in a huge mud puddle, and the song ‘These Are the Days’ by Natalie Merchant came on. What an incredible song. I remember thinking, ‘soak these moments up, because ‘these are the days we will remember’. If you’ve never heard that song, look it up.
Life is about the moments we create
That song has popped up often in my life, and every time I hear it, I think ‘these are the days I will remember’. The moments happening right now, no matter what is happening in my life, THESE are the days I will remember. Grab everyday and live it to the fullest, because all the days of our lives are the days we will remember. Carpe Diem. Seize the day.
Those days were also the of times though because we were so dreadfully broke and struggling financially. I think my worst memory is when I couldn’t dig up enough change to give the kids for lunch money at school. I vowed in that moment that this would never happen again, and it never did.
My kids are grown now, my oldest son is married to lovely Kristen, my perfect and beautiful daughter is loving life at the age of 24, and my youngest son just went off to college.
These are still the days
This seemed the perfect time to try out my new empty nest situation, blow the dust off my own wings, and take off with my boyfriend of 10 years, to the Smokey Mountains on our motorcycle, to ride The Dragons Tail along with m
y brother and his wife over Labor Day Weekend. 11 miles with 318 hairpin curves! We did it twice!
JUST WOW.
What an incredible trip that was. Very Highly suggested.
I listen to music when I ride, just sort of jamming in my own little world, and while I was taking in the breath taking scenery of Cherokee Co, NC, THAT song came on, and my whole world zeroed in on that one moment, and I again thought ‘these are the days you will remember’… These days, these moments, right now’.
Live the Good
There will be always be weddings, funerals, graduations, and other momentous events in life. And on other days there will be nothing going on at all, but every day is a day to experience to the absolute fullest. Even if it seems nothing significant is going on at all, it is. Every day of our life is significant, because you will never get it back.
No matter what is going on in our external life, find the good. Live the good. And I don’t say this lightly, I’ve had heart ache, anxiety, and everything else that comes with this life. If you’re going through a weird time right now, or even if you’re not, find the good. It requires a dramatic overhaul in our mindset which is not an easy thing, but it can be done, and it’s so worth it.
I’m 55, and this year I stepped WAY out of my comfort zone and started a keto recipe youtube channel with my daughter in law. This is something I would NEVER have imagined for myself because I am shy by nature. Actually it should have been my worst nightmare! But we’ve been keto for close to 3 years now and we had something to say.
We had recipes to share. We wanted to help everyone who chose the keto journey to change their life by becoming more healthy, improving their self esteem and learning to love themselves, not just by losing weight, but by making good decisions every day and the confidence that it brings.
And People are Listening to us.
That continues to be an ever increasing wonder to me.
We could have just talked about it and never done it. I could have said I’m 55, this is a ridiculous thing to do at my age, but I didn’t. We could have left an idea undone, but we didn’t, because we have a heart for helping people and I’ve had a passion for nutrition for most of my adult life.
I’m not going to lie, those first few videos were tough! Being an amateur photographer
and being on the other end of that camera while trying to think of something to say to people who who might or might not listen, was excruciating for me. But we did it, and now we LOVE it! We can’t wait to share each recipe!
You just have to take that very first step.
We all have a voice.
We all have something to say, and we all deserve to be heard.
Step out of your comfort zone and remember.
‘THESE are the days we will remember.
