Where do I start??
So now that you understand a little more about keto, you’re probably wondering how to get started! We’ve got you covered…
First things first-let’s clean out that pantry!
If there are other members of your household who aren’t doing keto, that’s ok. It’s important to designate a special place on your shelves just for keto items. As with any diet, you are most likely going to go through an adjustment phase. Keeping food items that you may have considered “healthy” before, may be major keto “no-no’s.” We don’t want to keep those items in plain sight, because in a moment of weakness, there’s no guarantee that we won’t reach for them. So why tempt ourselves, right?
Get your grocery list together
Now for the fun part-get started on your grocery list! Focusing on all of the delicious food we can have, instead of the food we can’t have, is going to keep you positive and motivated. After all, how many diets have you been on where you can have butter and not feel guilty about it?
While we make sure that we are getting in all of the fat that we need in order to stay in ketosis, we also want to focus on eating healthy fat! Not to say that you shouldn’t have bacon, but when I think of the phrase, “you are what you eat,” I certainly don’t want the image of a pig to be what I’m looking at when I stand in front of the mirror! Let’s think avocado’s and healthy nuts! (In this case I’m ok with being called a nut)
Next, if you haven’t already, we would highly suggest downloading a keto app. I try to think of the keto app as my best friend who is going to help hold me accountable without judging me! It’s really imperative that you track your macros, to ensure that you are getting enough fat, and not going over your macros in areas like carbohydrates or protein. I’ve found that when I don’t use my keto app, even when I think I’m staying completely keto, I’m actually going over my carbohydrates with meals where I haven’t calculated my macros. I have tricked myself into thinking that maybe I hit a plateau, when in reality, I just wasn’t as strict as I was when I started this keto journey.
